"Once a bitch, always a bitch, I say."
This quote reveals Jason's way of telling things the way they appear. His straightforwardness also comes off as being extremely rude and bitter. His view on Miss Quentin reveals his vulgurness and hatred towards his family and also women in general. Jason chooses to blame his problems on others instead of realizing that he has faults of his own.
"What this country needs is white labor. Let these dam trifling niggers starve for a couple of years, then they’d see what a soft thing they have."
Jason holds prejudice against blacks and Jews. He holds hatred and bitterness towards everybody. Betweeen these quotes it is revealed to us that Jason's character doesn't fluctuate or change a lot over time. He remains the same mean and bitter person throughout the entire story.
I agree with your comments about Jason hating other groups of people for no reason. I think he is so obsessed with himself that he has to find faults in every group of people that doesn't include him, so that he can give his ego a boost by convincing himself that he is so much better than everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI think this quote really shows who he is as a person. He is very bitter and hateful especially in regards to women. I agree with the Jason blaming things in other people because he seems to believe the world is out to get him. I agree this quote shows his hatred towards women as a whole.
ReplyDeleteI think Jason fits the mold as a grade A racist. I feel like Faulkner did this for a reason, though, as Jason comes to represent the desperation of the dying Southern system. By affiliating the two, this puts this side of Southern Culture in particularly bad lighting.
ReplyDeleteThis was a perfect quote to use to describe Jason's cruel and self-centered personality. I completely agree with your description of how his hated, evil character is depicted within the story.
